WHO for Africa: prepare for the worst with SK

The World Health Organization, on Wednesday, warned of the spread of the new Coronavirus in Africa, and the organization urged African countries to "prepare for the worst", she said.

Experts have warned of the low official figures of HIV infections in Africa, and some considered that this may be an indication of weak case-monitoring systems.

The Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tiedros Adhanum Ghebrysos, described the emerging coronavirus, on Wednesday, as "an enemy of humanity".

He said in a press conference that "this virus represents an unprecedented threat, but it also gives an unprecedented opportunity to mobilize against a common enemy, an enemy of humanity."

Gypressus emphasized that countries around the world should take a comprehensive approach to combat the new COVID-19 epidemic caused by the new Coronavirus, isolate, test and track as many cases as possible.

He said that "to suppress and control the epidemic, countries must isolate, test, treat and track".

He added that "if they do not do that, the chain of virus outbreak can continue at a low level and then reappear once the physical separation procedures are lifted." He said testing and tracking strategy "must be the backbone of response in every country."

Cypress also said that to accelerate the search for potential treatments and medications for COVID-19 infection, WHO and its partners are organizing a multi-country study to analyze and compare some of the treatments that have not yet been tested.

"This large international study is designed to generate the robust data we need to demonstrate the most effective treatments," he added.
