Egypt .. Al qAzhar halts prayers in congregation and Friday for two weeks

On Saturday, the Sheikh of the Al-Azhar Mosque, Ahmed Al-Tayeb, decided to temporarily suspend the prayers of the group and Friday in the Al-Azhar Mosque, until the spread of the new epidemic of the Coronavirus was stopped, and based on the legal rule, “Health of bodies is a precursor to the health of worship.”

Al-Azhar’s decision, which will take effect for two weeks, “in the interest of the safety of worshipers,” comes at a time when Egypt has registered 29 new cases of Coronavirus, bringing the total number of infections to 285, Friday.

The Egyptian Ministry of Health said that another person died of the disease, bringing the number of deaths to eight.

Last Thursday, Egypt closed cafes, commercial centers, sports clubs and night clubs from seven in the evening until six in the morning local time, every night until March 31, to reinforce the measures it applies to contain the outbreak of the Coronavirus.

The Cabinet said that the decision does not apply to bakeries, grocery stores, pharmacies, and food stores, whether located in or outside the commercial centers. The decision comes after Egypt has already closed schools and universities.

The government has also moved to reduce the number of public sector workers who come to the workplace, to reduce clusters and slow the spread of the virus.

Egypt suspended flights, at noon last Thursday, local time until the end of March, except for the departure flights that foreign tourists need to leave.

The government stated that hotels and all educational facilities will be sterilized during the suspension of flights and the closure of schools.
