The G20 leaders said Thursday that they are confident of jointly tackling the Corona Virus Crisis crisis, and are ready to respond promptly and take any further action required by the conditions, including convening again if needed.

In their closing statement, the G20 leaders praised the postponement of major public events, including the 2020 Olympics. They emphasized that emergency measures to protect health would be targeted, proportionate, transparent and temporary.

They also announced that they instructed the trade ministers to assess the effects of the Corona pandemic on trade and to commit to open markets.

"We express our deep concern about the grave risks facing all countries, especially developing countries and the least developed countries, particularly in Africa and small island states," the leaders added, adding that refugees and displaced persons face "special risks".

The G20 leaders met remotely, on Thursday, at a virtual summit chaired by Saudi Arabia, in which US President Donald Trump and Russian Vladimir Putin participated.

The talks focused on how to protect the world's most important economies from the consequences of measures taken to prevent the spread of the virus, while a global economic recession looms on the horizon.

The virus has killed more than 21,000 people and forced more than three billion people to stay home.

In his speech, the Saudi monarch, King Salman, urged the largest economies in the world to take "firm and coordinated" measures at various levels to combat the pandemic of the emerging coronavirus.

The Saudi king stressed the full support of the World Health Organization in coordinating efforts to combat the virus, adding that the Group of Twenty should take on "the responsibility to enhance cooperation in financing research and development in the pursuit of a vaccine for the Coronavirus."
