Chinese president calls on Trump to unite ... goodwill gesture

Chinese President Xi Jinping, in a phone call with his US counterpart Donald Trump, affirmed that their two countries, despite their rivals, should "unite to fight" the emerging Corona virus epidemic.

The announcement is a sign of calm after days of accusations between Washington and Beijing over the issue.
According to the public, Xi also stressed that "China is ready to continue to exchange information and experiences with the United States without reservation."
Trump repeatedly accused the Chinese authorities last week of delaying the announcement of important data related to the severity of the emerging corona virus, which, according to the US president, could have prevented its spread.
Beijing also accused Trump of "evading his responsibilities."
Trump and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo reiterate the use of the phrase "Chinese virus", which has angered Beijing.
Earlier in March, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman hinted in a tweet that the US military might be responsible for bringing the virus to China.
The call, which was marked by a conciliatory tone, came at a time when the epidemic began to spread rapidly in the United States, where the number of infections has become the highest in the world (more than 83,000 cases).
Xi announced that the relationship between Beijing and Washington is "at a particularly critical moment," adding that cooperation "is the right decision" at this time.
He said Chinese provinces, cities and companies have already delivered medical equipment to the United States.
"I hope the American side will make concrete moves to improve bilateral relations," Shi said.
