China announced that it is adopting the Japanese drug "favipiravir" after it showed good clinical effectiveness against the disease caused by the emerging corona (Covid-19), and to start using it at the earliest opportunity.
According to Chinese media on Tuesday, China has completed the clinical research of "favipiravir", an antiviral drug that has shown good clinical efficacy against the new Coronavirus (Covid-19) disease.

Zhang Xinmin, director of the Chinese National Center for Biotechnology Development under the Ministry of Science and Technology, told a news conference that favipiravir, an influenza drug approved for clinical use in Japan in 2014, showed no clear negative reactions in the clinical trial.
More than 80 patients participated in the clinical trial at the Third People's Hospital in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, southern China, including 35 patients who took favipiravir and 45 patients in a group they did not use.

The results showed that patients who received favipiravir treatment became passive to the virus in a shorter time compared to patients in the placebo group.
A randomized, multicenter clinical study led by the Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University also suggested that the therapeutic effect of "favipiravir" was much better than that of the reference group.
Zhang said that "favipiravir" has been recommended for medical treatment teams and should be included in the Covid-19 diagnosis and treatment plan as soon as possible.
Zhang added that the Chinese Medical Products Administration had agreed to a Chinese pharmaceutical company to mass-produce the drug and ensure a stable supply.
