12 people were killed and two were missing in Iran as a result of floods caused by torrential rains that have witnessed the country since Sunday, according to the Iranian Emergency Authority, which is afraid of renewed heavy rains.
The floods come at a time in Iran suffering from the repercussions of the outbreak of the Coronavirus "Covid 19".
Mojtaba Khaldi, the spokesperson for the Iranian Emergency Authority, said that 11 of the 31 governorates included in Iran witnessed heavy rains.
He added that "the provinces of Hormozgan, Bushehr, Kerman, Persia, and Sistan-Baluchestan are the most affected by the floods."
Although the rains receded, "relief operations (...) are still continuing" in the affected areas, according to Khalidi.
The spokesman said: "We were warned of a new wave of rain in (a number of western regions) on Saturday."
Iran is one of the countries hardest hit by the emerging coronavirus, and it has announced the death of 1934 people with Coved-19.
In the months of March and April of the year 2019, at least 76 people died in floods caused by torrential rains that fell in most of the lands of Iran.
The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies has classified what happened in Iran during that period as "the largest disaster in the country in more than 15 years", considering that it affected more than 10 million people and led to the displacement of more than 500 thousand.
